food junkie-

I kinda want to turn my blog into a food blog. I've been trying some new places and I think they're worth sharing with you guys! Nothing too fancy but here it is!

SUSHIHOLIC -
Located on the corner of Rupert and Broadway.
I've passed by this tiny restaurant so many times before, and I always thought that it's just like any other small japanese joint..maybe worse because it was so small and low-key. However, I have been told and recommended by friends that this restaurant is amazing and definitely worth a try. So today Justin and I decided to go there for dinner, after I left my friends barbeque.

Here is what we ordered:

Red Roll:
If you are familiar with the restaurant, Oyama, you may have heard of, or tried this roll before. It was a Must-Order everytime i went to Oyama. Justin told me that one of the chefs left Oyama and now works at Sushiholic, and so that's why they also have this item on the Special Roll menu. I have to say, this is even better than Oyama's. The portion is a lot smaller, and it's more pricier ($7.95 compared to ~$4.50) but it definitely tasted a lot more fresh. I give this a 10/10. Nothing bad to say about it.

Alaska Combo:

I enjoyed this combo, the Alaska roll was good, although I always thought that the salmon on the roll was supposed to be smoked. The salmon and tuna sashimi was good, but nothing that blew me away like the Red Roll did. haha 8/10.

Awesome Roll:
Where shall i begin with this roll?? I loved everything about it. Especially the fried yam crumbs at the top. I believe this was also $7.95, I definitely recommend trying this one. 10/10.

The ambiance of this restaurant was very chill and the interior is actually bigger than it looks from the outside. I enjoyed their service and will definitely be returning.

raisin pie with French vanilla icecream topped with strawberries+bananas & chocolate drizzle -

For the past week, I've been watching cooking shows almost everyday. Every weekday at 12:30, there's Gaslight Gourmet..which is sort of an old fashioned cooking show, and the host/chef is hilarious because he's really lame and awkward sometimes when he tries to be funny hahaha so he makes the cooking more entertaining. Here's a picture of him..you already get what I mean hahah

And then at 3pm, Best Recipes ever comes on! It's my favourite cooking show so far. The recipes are so easy and they always look appetizing. She's so cute and sweet!

I just told my dad to order the Food network (yes..i don't have that channel right now ><) and I'm soooo excited to finally watch cooking shows all day long!! *teeeeehee.
I've been doing a lot of cooking lately, it's truly a passion of mine. It's so rewarding when people like what you cook and prepare. I love seeing faces when they indulge in my food made by yours truly :)
Tonight I made a dessert for my dad and sister and i! It was TDF! I only had to bake (heat up) the Raisin pie purchased from Saveway..and pot melt the Purdy's chocolate.

SUMMER TO-DO LIST

-grouse grind -my coworker who finished the grouse grind in 49mins talked me into doing it! I always thought i'm too girly girl to achieve it, and I would probably die half way...but I think people make it sound harder than it actually is. Hopefully. lol.
-bike the seawall with my boo and friends. -this is a must if you live in the beautyful vancity! Justin can get us rental bikes, or those bikes where you have 2 people riding it (forgot what it's called) with his credit card. There is no way Kaylie will carry her bike onto the skytrain and down Robson street.
-CELEBRATE the Canucks' winning of the Stanley Cup at Downtown!!! this is our year!
-go water skiing. -this is completely out of my comfort zone but it looks way too fun! I don't know where I can access that though.

-go to a water park miles away from home with friends + play in open water + have a bbq there
-have lunch on West 4th with besties (even though one of them aren't fond of lunches, ahem.)

birthday beauty goodies

Too Faced Naked and Smokey Eye set: from besty. I've wanted this set for so long but never really put my hands on it. I love the pigmentation of each shadow, and you can never go wrong with the neutrality of the colours! It also comes with 3 different cards that teaches you how to apply different looks. All That Glitters MAC shadow: I got a neon purple eyeshadow from a friend but I wasn't crazy about the colour and I couldn't see myself using it often, so I exchanged it to yet another neutral colour! Love it so far. OPI Femme De Cirque mini polishes-They are sooo cute how tiny they are! However the colours are very sheer. Sephora Lip Attitude Lipstick in G19-I decided to purchase something from Sephora because I didn't want to just go in purposely for my birthday gift. So i randomly picked up a lipstick, and I quite like it so far. It's very creamy, smells like candies, and its a wearable nude colour. Have to wear it more to further review it. The tube looks larger than your standard lipstick, so that's a plus!

3 nail polishes from clara! can't wait to try them out, especially the pink one, Don't know...Beets Me! :) thanks girlie<3

tiny haul-

I just finished my second final today, what a relief I only have one left! I made a pit stop to Shoppers Drug Mart on my way home. I went there intending to find the Avene Thermal Spray, which was recommended by one of my Twitter friend. Since yesterday, I had a red dry rash on my chin when I woke up. I believe it was from the Clinique Acne Control moisturizer, because I applied a little on my pimple the night before. It was a big mistake! It dried up my skin like crazy and it got really irritant and rash, not to mention dry and scalley when i stretch the affected area. How disgusting does that sound? :(

So I purchased the Avene Thermal Spring Water Spray. It claims to soothe and soften sensitive skin, sunburn, various forms of irritation, razor burn, use to complete cleansing, in summer, when traveling. I'm not sure what the original price was, but the brand was on sale today so I got it for $7.49! Sweeet :) I can't wait to try it out.

Second was the Vichy Normaderm set. I wasn't intending to buy any cleansing products today. But the employee at the cosmetics counter recommended this set to me which was also on sale for $21.99, valued at $40. It claims to dilate pores, mattify shine and help with irregular skin texture. It came with a cleanser that eliminates impurities and sebum excess, and unclogs pores deep down.

And lastly, I just picked up the Maybelline Fit Me liquid founda
tion. I've been meaning to buy this and it was on sale today as well, for $8.99.

helpless.

Just finished studying for the day..I was very unproductive with the start of my day today because all I wanted to do was re-enact the Lazy Song. It was the perfect day for that. Actually, when is it not a lazy day for me? I didn't get down to business until around 6pm..how horrible is that when my final is in less than 2 days!! As a result, I had to study until 3am. And I should be sleeping but I had some things I needed to get off my chest and rant.

I have never been so frustrated with a person in my entire life. I have never felt so helpless. I feel like no matter what I do, things will never be the way it used to be. We weren't ever prepared to face a predicament like this one, and I seldom wonder why it has to happen to us. What have we done to deserve this? Better yet, what have you done? It tears me to pieces knowing they witness something they shouldn't have to see. And I wish I could find a solution..but I am so fed up with dealing with you. I will never trust you with the opposite sex, and I will never trust the opposite sex with you. After the encounter with the stranger in a house I never envisioned myself to be in, I begged not to relive a moment like that one again. You and your vulnerability leads me to conclude that you are not mentally capable to make your own decisions and you cannot see right and wrong. It worries me, but all that can come out of my mouth are words that probably hurt you. But understand that, I have done all that I can in the past to rescue you. And I have gone out of my way to take responsibilities for your thoughtless actions. Sure it may not seem like it in your eyes and other peoples, I feel like I've done my part. Why is it so hard for you to understand reality and where we are coming from? Do I really need to slap you across the face and tell you to wake up? I know that without professional help, I sure as hell do not think that this situation will get any better. It frightens me to invade your privacy and read your diary; you start every single post with profanity and negativity and you end it with the same. Just when I thought I figured you out inside out, there are a lot of things that still puzzles me. I suppose these are the symptoms of your condition? I want to help you for the sake of them, but how? Where am I supposed to go about from where I left off? I'm on the verge of giving up, to just let you help yourself. Let other people help you, or wait for yourself to seek assistance. I cannot help but wish you were like the others...I wish you watched over me instead of the other way around. The relationship between us perhaps will never mend. How ironic that when everyone is discreetly trying to fix you, you are in turn breaking us.

distractions distractions.

I am anticipating April 18th like nobody's business! That's the day of my last final!!! And 4 days following that will be my 2 year anni. And then it's all gonna go uphill cus summer will be fast approaching! I'm too excited..i can barely contain my excitement. It's bad because I can barely concentrate, and I make it seem okay to skip classes now. Waaah so bad :( I was studying with my computer off and I was doing fine. But my hands could not resist lifting my laptop open and turning it on. Why I did that, I don't know. But now I'm hella distracted. *sniff.

Oh, do you like my new banner? Heheh..I wanna do another photoshoot with the besties soon!
& can't wait til this weekend for Clara and Janet's birthday dinner @ the Brewery! I've missed so many birthday dinners before due to work.

Oh by the way, I need to rant about my fake ass redhead assistant manager. She totally just stole my sale last time I worked. I was helping a guy find a wallet for his gf and I gave him a few really good suggestions and he seemed pretty firm on this black gathered leather wallet which costed $248. I gave him some time to think about it and walked away to help other people. Next thing you know, I turned around and my bitch ass manager was helping him and closed the sale with her own name! bitch bitch bitch. She didnt even ask him 'Was anyone helping you?' CUS I CLEARLY WAS. ugh i hate her. She makes work miserable. I was too chicken shit to stand up for myself and tell her it was my sale. waah. I'm glad I'm only working once a week cus I'm SO OVER RETAIL.

happy spring!

Welcome spring, welcome!! I've waited so long for this season to finally come. I'm so ready to ditch my jackets and scarves, for reals.

I had an on call shift at work today, and luckily they didn't need me! Thank gosh, cus I was only taking someone's shift and I would've been a bitter employee if I had to go in. I like my sunday's anywhere but at work sank you very much! So the bf came over after his car meet and we went to Lucy's Eastside Dinner for a late lunch! I heard about that place in a few blogs and I couldn't wait to try it. The inside is covered with turquoise painted walls, I felt like I was inside a Tiffany & Co box. Hahah it was that kinda turquoise. So 70s in there! The food was amazing too.
I got a regular burger, it came with fries and a milkshake of the day. I got Oreo because it's my all time faaaav!! Omgosh IT WAS SO BOMB :) & justin got a BBQ Chicken burger. hehe he loved it there too! I'm so glad. It is also open 24hrs, I'm definitely gonna go for some late night burgers one day!

Since it was such a nice spring day in Vancouver, we decided to drive downtown. I bought myself some new suede maroon pumps from Roberto Vianni. Most of my heels are from that brand. haha it was on sale too! Could not stop myself. It was a very relaxed Sunday well spent. :)
it looks red but it's burgundy in person :)

march12.

I know that she is in a better place now. She was in line and it was her turn to go, and it was a way to ending the pain and suffer. Maybe she's united with my grandparents and they're having a good time together right now..catching up and watching over us.

It was my first time seeing someone pass..and it was definitely heartbreaking and difficult. I will never ever forget the scene of endless tears and unwillingness to let her go. It was especially hard to see her husband sit there and scowl at his own family for letting this happen to his wife. As though someone had caused her to go down the path of death. I know it is his way of coping and we must all understand that he is the most affected one. They shared more than 70years of memories together..and suddenly, she's gone, forever. This is an old loving couple who held hands as they walked. She peeled fruits for him and fed him all three meals and cared for him and herself without a complain. Who can you blame for his anger and disbelief? I hope he sees the truth some day and accepts it.

I learned that we must cherish everyone around us. We can say that so many times, but never actually put actions to it. It's hard to see someone go, it's even harder to feel the sense of regretful for not giving them your all when they were alive.

Rest In Peace. <3

life.

Yesterday, after I got off work, I checked the voicemail that my dad left me, which said 'Kaylie, where are you? are you working? Call me asap, there's an emergency." And right then, I already knew what was up. So i called him back and he told me to rush to the hospital because my grandma was not doing so well. And so i did.

I met him and my cousin and uncle at Mcdonalds as they were having some food. I was really scared because all of their eyes were so puffy and red. When we got to the hospital, I was greeted by all my relatives in the room where my grandma stayed in. I was so heartbroken and my eyes got so watery because I've never been in a situation like this. She looked so thin and vulnerable. She was sleeping and her mouth was opened the whole time..grasping heavily for air. My grandpa was sitting on a wheelchair next to her (he fell couple days ago and was also hospitalized.) Everyone knew she was on her way..but nobody wanted to leave her side. My family stayed there until midnight, because my mother was getting really tired (geez -.-) And at 2something, my dad, sister and I went back to the hospital. I literally slept on the chairs on the seating area where patients watch TV and socialize. But it was midnight, so it was just me and my cousins laying there. We got home at 5..and I was so exhausted.

This isn't my immediate grandma. She isn't my mom nor my dad's mom. She's my cousin's grandmother..which is kind of distant in the family tree if you picture it. But I've lived with her longer than I've lived with my own grandparents (who aren't with me anymore. <3)>

It's heartbreaking to see her husband sit and sob next to her, holding her hand and measuring her pulse with his fingers..It's so beautiful at the same time. I could see her trying to open her eyes, as though she is trying to communicate with us but she physically cannot.

So, it's been almost 24hrs since her condition has worsened. I'm told she is still the same..a little bit worse because of her blood pressure. But she is trying hard to fight it and be strong, and it shows. Everything's been peaceful, very emotional nonetheless.

Maybe a miracle will happen?

I only did one hand with the sparkles because I was getting lazy haha.

MAC Transparent Finishing Powder. Finally picked up a loose powder to set my liquid foundation with. Tried it today, and I like it so far!

Hope you all had a great weekend <3

march5th-

It's been a couple days since I last blogged. So on Thursday, it was the most relaxing day I had since a long longgg time. I really needed it! Justin and i finally went to Delta for Krispy Kremes!! We thought that it was gonna be a long ride, well he did. But we got there in like 30mins! We got 2 dozens :) Finished my last donut today..sooo orgasmic. It's definitely not your typical tim horton's donut! It was Justin's mom's birthday that day too, so we to Save-On to pick her up her favorite Tuxedo cake. It's so delish! It's like layers of bread, chocolate and creme. & then I went to Tropika for dinner with Justin's family. Food was amazeballs, I had a great time with my second family < 3.
I picked up a few things from London Drugs:
Revlon Nail Enamel in
Peach Nectar:

I think this is gonna be my new go-to colour! I love the colour pay off. This picture doesn't do the nail polish justice, it's much nicer in person. I like how it has a hint of peach and it's matte, it has no shimmer. I hate shimmer nail polish sometimes haha. I applied 3 coats to get that colour in the picture. And the best part? It was on sale for $2.99!
Physician's Formula Happy Booster Blush in Rose:

I heard about this blush from a youtube beauty guru and I had to get it the moment I saw it. I think the packaging and the look of the product captured my attention most. I'm a huge sucker for pretty packaging. So apparently the ingredient contains something that mimics Endorphins, and Endorphins are supposed to make you happy, hence the name Happy Booster. I refuse to believe a blush can make you happy..but I'm still very impressed! Let me just say that it is SUPER pigmented, and super PINK. I apply a very small amount, and blend blend blend away. It gives off a really healthy glow. The blush comes with a small brush and mirror as well, but I won't be using the brush for sure. It smells like rose extracts. Price: $15somthing. My first Physician's Formula product, and I will definitely be repurchasing from their line. It's like high-end drug store. Over all I'm really impressed and you should all consider it if you're looking for a good quality, affordable blush for spring and summer. The only thing is, why are my hearts upside down??

happiest girl in the world.

Omgosh, freedom never smelt so good. I finished my last midterm today, it was Bio and it wasn't as bad as I had anticipated. This semester, I'm starting to really feel like hard work does pays off. I felt like i tried twice as hard this time around, than I have ever did. And I'm enjoying the results I see. Hopefully I'm not too far from my goal and I'll be able to surprise my father soon! It's going to be a special moment :')

So I decided to treat myself after weeks of studying. But I didn't buy much! I went to Richmond with bf and his bf. lol. ew. hahahah. I got a few things for nails from Daiso. The nail polish i got was a light baby pink. I'm not too fond of the colour pay off and quality. What can you expect from a $2 nail polish though right? Haha. And then we went over to Richmond Centre. I really like the new XXI there, it's a lot smaller though. I just found a cute turquoise and gold ring. hella cuuute! and after dinner, the family and i made a trip to the hospital to visit my cousin's grandma; she fell a few days ago :(. Aaaand then we went to superstore and just picked up random shit. bahaha.. I got a Freeman Cucumber PeelOff mask. it smells so fresh, ima give it a try tonight and let you know how it is!

Purple Gradient Glitter Nails

So I decided to do my nails before I studied, because knowing me..I'll be staring at my ugly nails instead of concentrating on my notes. The first design i did was inspired by bubzbeauty. She twitpic'ed it and i thought it was SO cute. But when i did it on my nails...I wasn't feeling it. It was more of a summer nail design..not quite suitable for the rain/snow we have right now!
So an hour later, I decided to do Purple gradient glitter nails. It was kinda inspired by Beeautyqueen. & these are the products I used:

And this is how it turned out!

& I am fully aware that this is gonna be a bitch to remove. But i have 5days before I have to go back to work, so I had to do something fun other than PINKS & REDS (colours im allowed to wear on my nails for work).

I definitely like the purple glitters a lot more than the strawberry one. I always go through so many different colours before I'm happy with one! Hope you likeees it & back to studying :(
